The back and forth
And the in between
She experiences
As obstacles
And sometimes sadness
But perhaps
They’re just a part
Of the dance of life

“When the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail,” so the saying goes.
I find that often the inevitable passage through something new to the other side feels like an obstacle to be fought.
And that uncomfortable emotions arise and feel like they need to be mitigated or tamped down.
Many of us have been taught that we need to go after all those perceived nails with our hammer, banging them out of our way, minimizing our discomfort.
When really, the uncomfortable passage is the way.
We can fight or avoid but the only way through is through.
Perhaps it’s not a hammer, but rather a dance?
Forward and back, in-between and around.
Sometimes graceful, sometimes awkward, but always moving.
How are you choosing to dance today?
