What if I’m the angel beside you
wings tucked tightly
into street clothes,
unassuming yet wholly connected
to the one?
What if it’s your neighbor,
the one who leaves the holiday lights
strung up for months.
What if he has more important work to do?
Perhaps it’s the homeless man,
who asks for your last dollar,
or the woman who cuts you off in traffic?
How will you react?
What if the world is full of angels,
bringing light to people everywhere,
disguised as one of you?
