Waiting

Poetic Healing

Waiting, waiting
For the other shoe to drop
For the sting of rejection
Or the elation of acceptance

Waiting
Feels like silent suffocation
A noose around
The neck
Constantly watching
Your back
Your phone
Your hope fade

The inspiration for the poem was my anticipation of a callback regarding a job interview. However, as I’ve reflected since writing this, I realize that I’m constantly waiting for something to go wrong, as that has been the bulk of my past experience. I did not get the job, so it seems I’m still manifesting that same pattern in my life. That’s the power of poetry (or perhaps all writing)….a seemingly innocuous poem lends itself to deeper meaning & clarity with no effort at all!
